Artist Statement
My work grows through forms that keep returning. Across painting, ceramics, and works on paper, I revisit them in different materials, scales, and arrangements, gradually developing a visual language whose possibilities I discover through making.
These forms sit somewhere between bodies, objects, and living things, without fully becoming any of them. Although they have no direct counterpart in the real world, I am interested in giving them a sense of physical presence—as if they could exist. Their character shifts through colour, surface, light, and their relationship to the space around them. A form can appear dense and sculptural in one work, then transparent, reflective, or barely present in another.
In painting, I use layered colour, translucency, reflections, and shifts in density to construct this sense of material presence. The forms behave as though they were subject to light, gravity, transparency, and weight, giving physical credibility to something fundamentally invented. In ceramics, the same vocabulary becomes tangible: the forms acquire actual weight and texture, while the material introduces its own irregularities and resistance. Each medium offers a different way of understanding the same evolving language.
My process moves between intuition and deliberate construction. I return to familiar shapes to discover what happens when they change, meet, overlap, or inhabit a new space. Rather than defining what these forms are, I am interested in how convincingly something unfamiliar can occupy a world of its own, allowing the work to remain open to associations I cannot fully anticipate.
